Strangely, it had never occurred to me until this morning that the word “vintage” – which makes age sound like a good thing – is actually very specifically in reference to wine, with its earliest roots in the Latin vindemia, which means grape-gathering. With age comes wisdom, I guess. I’d have to say that anyone who thinks of getting old as a bad thing hasn’t tried to have a meaningful conversation with a teenager lately.
